Our client, E.I. Medical Imaging, operates in the portable ultrasounds market. Since 1984, they have been manufacturing and selling ultrasound scanners in the USA. They primarily serve veterinarians and livestock producers with portable ultrasound scanners designed for use outside of a clinic (on farms, in fields). The company develops these scanners for various types of animals, from small ones to bovine.
Challenge
Their ultrasound device uses a patent-pending transducer to generate ultrasound waves, converts the reflected echoes into images, and transfers the images to the client's mobile devices (iOS, Android) using built-in wireless live-streaming technology. The device provides a Wi-Fi access point and creates a stream via an RTSP server using the H264 video codec.
This initial setup was functional. However, some improvements were required in image quality and latency (which was over 200 ms). The stuttering in the image stream was noticeable, so the client asked us to fix this issue.
Solution
Results
After the client's acceptance test of our latest build, their final feedback included the word 'fantastic' because they did not encounter any image artifacts as they had before.
As a result, the client enhanced the user experience for veterinarians and farmers, enabling them to conveniently view the image stream on mobile phones and tablets with the highest image quality and no display lag.
